CD Replication

CD, DVD, Blu-ray Manufacture

Manufacture (500 + units)

Disc ‘manufacture’, ’replication’ or ’pressing’ is ideally suited for larger volume projects, required within a more relaxed timeframe.

Turnaround for the manufacture of discs is usually between 8 and 10 working days from receiving your master and artwork. If for some reason your project is running behind schedule, and you require your discs in less than the time required to manufacture, then duplication is your best option. Since the introduction of high resolution thermal disc printers, there is very little difference between the appearance of short and long-run discs. The main distinction between the two is the cost of materials and labour involved in their production, naturally this is reflected in a slightly higher price for short-run media.

Long-Run CD & DVD Production (Manufacture) Disc manufacture is most beneficial if you are working to more relaxed timeframes or require quantities of 500 or more discs. The main advantage of this method of production is that it’s the most cost effective means of reproducing high volumes of CDs or DVDs. DiskBank have well-established relationships with a number of Australian and overseas manufacturers, enabling us to offer you excellent rates and turnaround times on the replication of your CDs & DVDs. Manufacturing services are also available on miniature CDs & DVDs, business card CDs and dual layer DVDs (DVD9) on orders over 1,000 units. Please ask one of our team for more information about DVD10, DVD18 and Blu Ray formats of media.

How does it work? CD and DVD ‘pressing’, ‘replication’ or ‘manufacture’ is a process in which a glass master is produced from your original master CD, DVD or Blu-Ray . A metal stamper is then created from this glass master on which the binary code (data) of your disc is encoded. High grade polymer is then injection moulded and ‘pressed’ flat onto the stamper, thus picking up the ‘pits’ and ‘lands’ (the information contained on your disc). An aluminium coat is then applied, after which a final layer of polymer seals the disc before it is ready for printing.

Disc Printing Options There are two printing options to consider when initially designing your disc face artwork, offset or silk screen. Both have their advantages, however, your choice should be based on the level of detail in your design, colour configuration and whether your artwork contains images, graphics or small text. If you are unsure which format of printing will best suit your needs, our team are only too happy to advise.

Silk Screen Printing Screen printing is renowned for giving rich, vibrant colour results and is ideal for use with vector design and Pantone (PMS) colours. If your artwork is made up of a bold or solid background colour with text and comprises of 1 to 6 colours, then screen printing is more than likely the best option for you. Screen printing does however have its limitations. If you require a higher detail of print and your design contains photograph images, we recommend that you consider offset printing.

Offset Printing Offset disc printing is now the preferred method by the majority of CD and DVD manufacturers. This format of printing is based on the CMYK process and uses pixels rather than lines (vector), giving your design detail close to that of a photograph. Offset printers produce a higher resolution finish than that of screen printing machines, thereby allowing your design to contain more detailed graphics. We recommend you choose the offset process for a CMYK based print, if your artwork is fairly detailed, uses a great deal of colour, tonal ranges or images. Screen and offset disc prints are available without the indented ‘stacking ring’ enabling you to design an image that covers the disc from an outer diameter of 117mm to an inner circle of 21mm.

The Finished Product Your discs are available simply on the spindle or assembled into whatever packaging best suits your marketing requirements. Printed packaging and offset printed paper inserts are also available with all manufacturing jobs; please refer to the printed paper inserts and packaging sections of this brochure for further information.
